Free Printable Months of the Year Tracing Sheets

All twelve months fit on one page, one month per line. Your child traces January to December using dotted letters and three-line guides.

The generator is already set to 12 lines and 1 page. Want bigger letters? Tap the two-page Quick layout (6 months per page), so January to June print on page one and July to December on page two. You can also edit the list to include just the months you need, such as your child’s birthday month and the current month.

Ideas for Learning the Months of the Year

Link each month to things children already know: birthdays, holidays, the seasons and the weather. Make a birthday chart for the wall, or colour in one month at a time as you move through the year. Many children learn the order fastest by singing it, then tracing the words afterwards.

Some months are tricky to spell, such as February and September, so trace those a few extra times. Every month starts with a capital letter, which is useful practice too.

Spelling the Tricky Months

February and September are the months most children find hardest. Say February as Feb-ru-ary and September as Sep-tem-ber while tracing, clapping once for each beat. January, June and July look similar at the start, so trace them in order and say the first letter sound.

Making a Birthday Months Booklet

Print both pages, cut along the rows and staple the strips into a small booklet. Your child can draw a picture for each month and write a family birthday under it. This turns the worksheet into a keepsake and gives extra practice.

Writing the Date

Combine this page with the days of the week sheet to practise writing a full date such as Monday 5 October. Use the short forms Jan, Feb and Mar when your child starts labelling a calendar, since they fit in small boxes.
